Minglanilla, "Sugat Capital of the South"
When it comes to festival, Municipality of
Minglanilla will never be left behind. Minglanillahanon have their own festival
which is Sugat-Kabanhawan, where infact Minglanilla is known for "Sugat
Capital of the South".
It
is celebrated every Easter Sunday. The main highlight of this event is the
reenactment of the resurrection of Jesus Christ wherein there is also a war
between the angels lead by Angel Gabriel against the demons. Many people would
come to Minglanilla just to witness the Sugat, some of them came from the
neighboring islands.
By the
afternoon, Kabanhawan Street Dancing would take place. Despite of the heat of
the sun, still the participants dance gracefully along the street and you can
still see the beautiful smile in their faces. Next is the Kabanhawan Ritual
Showdown. They performed on stage with a different concept.
They
showcased their talent in dancing and creativity in performing. The
participants are the students from the different schools of Minglanilla both
elementary and high school. The last part of the festival is an awesome
fireworks display. Thanking to God for the successful festival and also
thanking to those people who witness the festival all day long.
Immaculate Heart of
Mary Church
Most Pure Heart of Mary Church's first structure was established by the Augustinians in 1878. The present church was established two years later, with light materials. Its stone convent was constructed from 1877 to 1886.
